Capital Projects: The Journey

Destination Winneconne

Exciting things are happening at the Winneconne Community School District (WCSD). We are becoming a Destination District. Our students are continuing to achieve at high academic levels and our facilities are improving thanks to the generosity of our community.

Mapping a Future Direction

In the Fall 2012, the Board of Education recognized the need for future planning for the District. The process began by hiring McMahon Engineering and Miron Construction. From here the Board enlisted the help of various stakeholders - Music Parents Group, Winneconne Area Education Foundation, Grid Iron Club, and others. The groups began meeting to design a vision for future of District’s facilities.

Donations, Legacy Brick Sale, and voter approved referendum have helped raise funds

Many fund raisers and community activities as well as private donations have made some of the vision a reality. Recent improvements and additions to the high school/middle school campus include:

  • A new competition track;
  • Concession stand;
  • Main entrance/archway & ticket sales booth into the high school football, track/field area;
  • Norbert Rich Outdoor Education Center;

All of these improvements are the result of generous donations - no taxpayer dollars were used.

Community survey assessed priorities

On September 8-9, 2015, Winneconne Community School District Residents received the survey in the mail. Residents participated and results helped the board determine the next priorities of the Facilities Plan.

The survey was conducted by School Perceptions of Slinger, WI

Final survey results were reported at the Board of Education meeting on October 19, 2015 and the board proposed a referendum in April 2016.

Based on survey results, the Board pursued the technical education expansion and the auditorium.

Both projects were approved in the successful referendum on April 5, 2016 and are under construction 2016 and 2017.
