Winneconne Community School District: Facilities Planning

wolf referendum reminder

More information regarding our District’s upcoming April 4, 2023 referendum is coming soon!

We have a lot to be proud of at our schools. Students in the Winneconne Community School District continue to perform at a high level, both in and out of the classroom. This would not be possible if it weren’t for dedicated staff, highly engaged parents, and support from our community. The support we received for previous projects in 2012 and 2016 is much appreciated. Now, our middle school needs attention.

Over the last 12 months, the District has sought feedback from a community-wide survey to prioritize its facility needs. The result is a plan that will provide updates to our middle school to address our most pressing infrastructure needs and resurface and reconfigure our high school parking lot as we continue our Journey to the Future.

Again, we listened to your feedback and made changes to the original ask from April 2022. You told us you understood our middle school and high school parking lot needs attention but $47.8 million was too costly. So, we reduced the ask by $19.5 million by:

*
Eliminating the additional gymnasium

*
Eliminating the additional square footage to the middle school

*
Completing security projects with dollars that were being saved for future project vs. referendum dollars

*
Eliminating infrastructure projects at the high school and elementary school

The $28.3 million referendum, that was unanimously supported by the School Board, will create a “like new” middle school within the existing footprint by addressing our infrastructure needs and reconfiguring space. Our facilities assessment found that the building structure is in good shape, but the building systems/infrastructure is failing.

Facilities Planning Background Information

The Winneconne Community School District Board of Education and Administration appreciates the community survey feedback—thank you to all who completed and returned the survey in Fall 2022! On December 16, 2022, after reviewing the survey results, the Board voted unanimously to adopt a resolution to go to referendum. Therefore, the District will move forward with a Spring 2023 referendum to be held on April 4, 2023.

In April of 2022, voters did not support a $47.8 million referendum to address safety and security and infrastructure district-wide, as well as expand and renovate Winneconne Middle School. The Winneconne Community School Board and administration acknowledge and respect this decision and wanted community feedback on how to move forward.

Results of the School Perceptions survey were reported at the Board of Education workshop on December 8, 2022. Click on the links below to view the information.

Phased Approach to Facilities Planning

Winneconne Community School District originally initiated a long-range facilities planning process in early 2011 known as “Our Journey to the Future”. Our goal for many years has been to address identified facility needs in distinct project phases to make this project affordable for district taxpayers.

For additional information on the Facilities Master Plan, please see the “Our Journey to the Future” webpage.
