Medication at School

Prescription or Nonprescription (over the counter) Medication
Students are able to have prescription and/or nonprescription (over the counter) medication administered to them during the school day, as long as the following conditions are met:

  • The parent/guardian has completed the Medication - Treatment Authorization Form; 
  • A form completed for prescription medication has written instructions and signature from a medical practitioner signature, and a parent/guardian signature;
  • A form completed for over the counter medication has written instructions and signature from the parent/guardian, unless outside of the recommended dosage of the manufacturer, in which case a practitioner signature is also required;
  • The medication is brought in the original pharmacy/manufacturer labeled container by the parent/guardian or designated adult.


Stock (over the counter) Medication
As a courtesy to our parents/guardians, we have Stock (over the counter) medications available to be administered to our Middle School and High School students ONLY during the school day with parent/guardian consent. This form is included in online registration, but also available
here.

The medications available are in tablet form only, and include the following:

  • Tylenol (Acetaminophen)
  • Extra Strength Tylenol (Acetaminophen)
  • Advil (Ibuprofen)
  • Pepto Bismol
  • Claritin (Loratadine)
  • Zyrtec (Cetirizine)
  • Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) -- for this medication only, the parent/guardian will be notified prior to administration and the child will be sent home due to side effects of the medications. 

Please note, this form is OPTIONAL, and can be changed at any time by notifying the school nurse. 

Alternative Medication
Students are able to have alternative medication administered to them during the school day, as long as the following conditions are met:

  • The parent/guardian has completed the Medication - Treatment Authorization Form
  • The medication is FDA approved or considered a medication by the U.S. Pharmacopoeia and national formulary or official Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the U.S. or any supplemental publications to these references;
  • The medication form has written instructions and signature from a medical practitioner signature (unless FDA approved), and a parent/guardian signature;
  • The medication is brought in the original pharmacy/manufacturer labeled container by the parent/guardian or designated adult.
